*4 sizes to choose: Kawaii Standard ($47), Biggu Standard ($56), Kawaii Premium ($52), and Biggu Premium ($61)

For this unboxing, we were sent the Biggu Premium box, Grab & Go, & the Musubi Bag Kyandi Set!

The Biggu Premium Box

The items were shipped in a somewhat standard package, a white box with minimal branding, but once you open it, you will be surprised to see another box, this one wrapped in a beautiful furoshiki cloth. The box also came with a card displaying the various ways you can use the cloth, which I think is a rather considerate and lovely thing to include.

What’s in the box?

Cat Konpeito and Ramune

Our Thoughts: The ramune reminds us of the rock candy sticks you would get at tourist shops. They are little pops of sugar bursts, and each color is a different flavor. Eating these reminds us of the soot sprites from Spirited Away, based on the way they are shaped. Also, as this is the upgraded item since we got the Biggu Premium, it came with a cute little sakura spoon!

Kasugai China Marbles (Jawbreakers)

The true definition of carefully made candy, China Marbles take craftsmen about two months to make! The nostalgic and rustic taste is a Japanese classic.

Our Thoughts: Very similar to your typical jawbreaker! We are always impatient when it comes to these and usually try to break them (don’t recommend doing that). It was mildly sweet, which was nice to nurse without being overwhelmed with sweetness.

Chocolate Pocky

Creamy chocolate and the crunch of a biscuit – what’s better than that? Pocky has been a fan favorite for over 50 years.

Our Thoughts: If you haven’t had Pocky yet, you should probably fix that! These never fail to be a favorite, although this version had thinner sticks than we are used to.

Fruit Puchao

Wildly unique and satisfying, these chewy gummies offer your favorite fruity flavors. Every bag has individually wrapped grape, mango, strawberry, and melon flavors.

Our Thoughts: While the flavors we got were different than the listing (Apple, Watermelon, Grape, and Orange), they were all still delightful and packed full of flavor. If you like Starbursts, these are like an elevated version of them!

Milky Peko Chan Candies

Designed to mimic the Peko Chan mascot seen all over Japan, these soft, chewy, and sweet Hokkaido milk-flavored candies are sure to be a hit.

Our Thoughts: Fun fact for you, our mascot, Hachi, was based on Peko-chan! Soft and creamy, these remind me of a Mexican candy I used to get as a kid. We are always a fan of Hokkaido milk anything so this was a win for us!

Pureal Grape Gummies

Enjoy the sensation of a soft grape cloud melting in your mouth. A cross between a marshmallow and a gummy, these fluffy treats have an enormous iconic Japanese grape flavor in every bite!

Our thoughts: Exactly what the description says: “a cross between a marshmallow and a gummy”! The texture of the candy is distinctive, and the amount of flavor is out of this world!

Strawberry Pocky

Made with real strawberry bits and dipped in creamy strawberry chocolate, this fresh and fruity spin on traditional Pocky is sure to be a hit.

Our Thoughts: The nuttiness from the wheat flour is a nice balance to the sweetness of the strawberry chocolate coating. The thickness of the stick was also more in line with what we are accustomed to from Pocky. Once again, if you haven’t tried Pocky, we recommend changing that!

Sweet Potato Caramel

A sweet, slightly savory, and incredibly addicting chewy treat perfect for the fall and winter. It’s delicious, Japanese-style caramel with a hint of sweet potato wrapped in a completely edible rice starch cellophane.

Our Thoughts: This was probably one of the most unique candies we have tried. We attempted–unsuccessfully–to remove the wrapper from around the candy, only to realize after looking at the description on the website that you can actually eat the wrapper! Popping it into your mouth, the wrapper quickly dissolves and you have a sweet, sticky treat. I personally don’t get the sweet potato flavor. Maybe a mild candied yam? It reminded Chris of the Cow Tales candy texture, if you’ve tried those before.

Our Favorites from the box

Out of the 8 items we received in our Biggu box, our top 3 had to be the Pureal Grape Gummies, the Milky Peko-Chan candies, and the Sweet Potato Caramel. Each one offered a unique taste and/or texture that we weren’t expecting, and were super yummy at the same time!

Grab & Go & Musubi Bag Kyandi Set

The second box we received contained both the Grab & Go & Musubi Bag Kyandi Sets. Kyandi Candi made sure they were packaged with care, with a lovely pink bubble wrap to secure and protect the treats inside.

Grab & Go Set

Kyandi Candi’s description for the Grab & Go Set:

We compiled 5 of our top selling favorites and packed them in a sleek signature Kyandi box for easy gift giving! Whether you need a hostess gift, a client thank you, teacher appreciation, staff recognition, a birthday present, or just because, this exclusive Kyandi box is guaranteed to put a smile on their face!

Our thoughts: While some of the items included were already in the Biggu box, the other candies were also rather delicious. With the holidays coming up, I can see people purchasing this either for a stocking stuffer or perhaps a white elephant gift.

Musubi Bag Kyandi Set

Kyandi Candi’s description for the Musubi Bag:

The Japanese knot bag, or musubi bag, is the purrfect way to carry your essentials (and candy!) in style—just loop it through your wrist and you’re ready to go! Unique kawaii goodness inside: 3 cat print butter cookies cosplaying as a bear?! You haven’t seen cute until you’ve seen this! PLUS, a treat and activity in one: Sanrio Character Pack is a break-apart crunch chocolate bar—break the pieces and set your favorite character free, piece by piece. Also inside: our signature rainbow candies for a pop of sweetness!

Our thoughts: While we don’t own a cat to wear the cap, we have friends that do so this musubi bag would make a great gift for them! The bag itself is a decent size so you would be able to fit a few items or even a small lunchbox.

Improvements We Would Like To See

It would be great to see a pamphlet of the various candies included in the boxes. The pamphlet could include detailed descriptions and list the ingredients, instead of users needing to refer back to the website for information. For instance, when we tried the sweet potato caramel, we didn’t realize we were supposed to eat the wrapper. It wasn’t until revisiting the site and reading the candy description that I realized you could. On top of that, the website itself can be rather confusing to navigate at first.

I also wish there was more information about the boxes. There are a few things they could highlight in a stronger way, like the fact that the boxes are wrapped in furoshiki cloth or that one of the candies includes a beautiful sakura spoon. The imagery and overall user experience of the site is rather lacking and doesn’t truly sell how great the boxes are.

Overall Thoughts

We thoroughly enjoyed all the candies we received, and love how carefully packed the boxes were. There was definitely a thoughtfulness and attention to detail put into it. Also each candy was individually wrapped with a small cut out tab to allow for easy opening. Even though we got 8 different candies, the site currently has a selection of over 26 total options, making sure there is something for almost everyone’s palate. We definitely recommend snagging a box or two for a loved one (or yourself, that works too)!
