Weekly Oricon Chart Roundup – week 29

Heya, and welcome to our nommy roundup of the oricon chart! We’ll be showing you some of the most popular new songs in Japan this week.

In the number one spot, NMB48 with Durian Boy
. The Durian, known in parts of Asia as the king of fruits, is a famously bad-smelling fruit, which seems to be the theme of this song. Some members of NMB48 are even seen smelling and eating it in the music video.

The third of three Love Live! singles once again comes in at number two on the singles charts. This one marks the end of the weekly single releases that are accompanying the movie. Again, I am forced to link the same song, since they are pretty harsh about people posting the songs on YouTube.

SAY YEAH!! – DOBERMAN INFINITY
Coming in at number three, Say Yeah by Doberman Infinity. A hip-hop boy band that has been active since 2000 under the name Doberman Inc, this is their first single under their new name, having released two albums previously. The song,as the name might imply, is a happy song fit for a party. Even people who don’t speak Japanese can sing along to the many “say yeah” lines.

Cheering You!!!
Number four on the list is occupied by Idoling, with their new single Cheering You. The group is actually part of a TV show by the same name, where they follow the group around and viewers can see them grow as idols. The show has run since 2006 and has aired more than 1000 episodes, several a week, and alongside that the group also does all the regular things an idol group does, including concerts and regular album and single releases. Must be hard work for those girls.

At number five we find Fairies. A slight break from the normal trend for idol groups to have very happy sounding music, there song sounds more aggressive than most, mainly due to the guitar. But don’t let this fool you, there’s still plenty of happy, smiling girls singing and having a good time.

Number seven is taken by Yumemiru Adolescence, who are quickly capturing my heart with their mix of serious and silly, both in their dancing and their singing. They are still a fairly new group, having started in 2012, but it seems like they might stay for a while.

Takamiy
And finally, at number eight on the singles chart, we find Takamiy, with his new single, The sun of temptation. Takamiy, better known to his fans as Prince Takamiy, is the pseudonym for the solo career of The alfree’s group leader and producer, Toshihiko Takamizawa.

That’s it for this week! I hope you had your fill of nommy songs, and I’ll see you next week for another roundup of the Oricon Chart!
