Today’s Google Doodle Honors Director Eiji Tsuburaya

Today’s Google Doodle celebrates the 114th birthday of innovative Japanese director Eiji Tsuburaya. Tsuburaya is credited with bringing “Tokusatsu” to the worldwide stage. Tokusatsu is a style of live action filming that uses considerable amounts of special effects (tokusatsu means “special filming” in Japanese). Think Godzilla (Tsuburaya was a co-creator), Ultraman, and, here in the West, Power Rangers.

Today’s interactive Doodle involves setting up props, actors, stage lighting, and more all in the style of Tokusatsu!
